SSDI Payment Schedule 2026 and 2027: All Dates by Birth Date

Researched from official sources including Benefits.gov, SSA.gov, HHS.gov, and HUD.gov. Benefit amounts and eligibility rules change regularly - always confirm details on official .gov websites before applying. Last updated: September 2026

Dates verified against the official Social Security Administration payment calendar for 2026 and 2027. Reviewed October 2026.

The SSDI payment schedule follows the same rule as Social Security retirement: your deposit date is set by your day of birth, and it lands on one of three Wednesdays each month. This page gives you every SSDI payment date for the rest of 2026 and all of 2027, plus the parts of the calendar that only apply to disability benefits, like what happens when you also receive SSI and when your very first payment arrives after approval.

Which Wednesday Is Yours

Social Security Disability Insurance is paid by birth date group:

Day of birth SSDI payment day
1st through 10th Second Wednesday
11th through 20th Third Wednesday
21st through 31st Fourth Wednesday

There are two exceptions. If your SSDI started before May 1997, you are paid on the 3rd of the month instead. And if you receive both SSDI and SSI, a situation called concurrent benefits, your SSDI arrives on the 3rd and your SSI on the 1st. That second group is bigger than most people realize, and if it includes you, keep both this page and our SSI payment schedule handy because you follow two calendars at once.

Month Born 1st to 10th Born 11th to 20th Born 21st to 31st Pre 1997 or concurrent
October 2026 October 14 October 21 October 28 October 2
November 2026 November 10 November 18 November 25 November 3
December 2026 December 9 December 16 December 23 December 3

Note the November date for the first group. Veterans Day falls on the second Wednesday, so that payment moves to Tuesday, November 10. It is the only holiday shift left in 2026 for the Wednesday groups.

Full 2027 SSDI Payment Schedule

Month Born 1st to 10th Born 11th to 20th Born 21st to 31st Pre 1997 or concurrent
January January 13 January 20 January 27 December 31, 2026
February February 10 February 17 February 24 February 3
March March 10 March 17 March 24 March 3
April April 14 April 21 April 28 April 2
May May 12 May 19 May 26 May 3
June June 9 June 16 June 23 June 3
July July 14 July 21 July 28 July 2
August August 11 August 18 August 25 August 3
September September 8 September 15 September 22 September 3
October October 13 October 20 October 27 October 1
November November 10 November 17 November 24 November 3
December December 8 December 15 December 22 December 3

Look closely at the January row if you are in the pre 1997 or concurrent group. January 3, 2027 is a Sunday and January 1 is a holiday, so your January payment arrives on Thursday, December 31, 2026. December shows two deposits, January shows none, and you still receive twelve payments for the year.

New to SSDI? Two timing rules shape your first deposit. First, the law imposes a five month waiting period, so benefits begin with the sixth full month after the date the SSA decides your disability began. Second, because approval usually takes longer than that, most people are owed back pay by the time the decision letter arrives.

Back pay typically lands as a separate deposit within one to two months of approval, and your regular monthly payment then starts on your birth date Wednesday. If your decision letter and your first payment do not line up, that gap between the entitlement date and the approval date is almost always the explanation.

After 24 months of SSDI entitlement you are automatically enrolled in Medicare, and the Part B premium is deducted from your SSDI payment before it reaches your bank. That is why your deposit is smaller than your award letter amount.

Each January, two changes hit at once: the cost of living adjustment raises your benefit, and the new Part B premium is taken out of it. The 2027 COLA is announced October 14, 2026 and first appears in the January 2027 payment dates above. If money is tight, check whether a Medicare Savings Program can pay that Part B premium for you, which puts the full deduction back in your monthly deposit.

If Your SSDI Payment Does Not Arrive

  • Check the tables above first. Holiday shifts and the December 31 quirk explain most surprises.
  • Log in to my Social Security at ssa.gov to see the payment status the SSA has on file.
  • Verify your bank account on file is still open. Account changes are the top cause of genuinely missing deposits.
  • Wait three business days past your date, then call 1-800-772-1213.

Is the SSDI payment schedule the same as Social Security retirement?

Yes. Both use the identical birth date Wednesday system, and the full calendar is on our Social Security payment schedule page. The differences for SSDI are the waiting period, back pay, and the concurrent SSI rules covered above.

What day is SSDI paid if I also get SSI?

Your SSDI comes on the 3rd of the month and your SSI on the 1st, both moved earlier around weekends and holidays. You will see two deposits most months rather than one combined payment.

Does the 2027 COLA change my payment date?

No. It changes the amount starting with the January 2027 payment. Your Wednesday stays the same all year.

Why is my deposit less than my awarded benefit amount?

If you have been on SSDI for at least 24 months, the Medicare Part B premium is deducted automatically. Tax withholding you requested and certain overpayment recoveries can also reduce the deposit.

Can SSDI back pay arrive before the first monthly payment?

Yes, and it often does. Back pay and monthly benefits are processed separately, so the order they arrive in varies. Both should appear within about 60 days of your approval letter.

The Bottom Line

Your SSDI arrives on the same Wednesday every month, set by your birth date, with just one shifted date left in 2026 and none in 2027. The dates never move because of the COLA, and the only calendar trick worth remembering is December 31, 2026, when the concurrent and pre 1997 group gets January’s money early. We update this page each year when the SSA publishes the next calendar.
